Floating on the Flint River

Gilded edges have flaws
Gold dust thin and worn
But a mountain view
Winding rivers, scattered towns
Edges of creation
Against the forest floor
Fog and dust
Dreams drift
Perfection’s lore.

I live about 1/2 mile from the Flint River as the crow flies and 2 miles by car.  What makes the Flint River unique is that it is relatively clean. The biggest problem the Flint has is water flow. Some years, the water flow is so low it affects the health of the River.

The water is only about 3 feet deep in this picture.

This is the Altamaha River

Flint River at HWY 96 bridge which is two miles from my house.

There are "blue holes" which are underwater caves which appear blue.

  1. Mother nature has no favorites I guess. At least 3 feet deep no one should drown haha

    1. It was hard to make it in a canoe. There was a point, I got out of the boat and just sludged through the mud with the boat in tow., because the water was only about 6 inches deep.

  2. I love the alliteration in the poem. Blue holes are fascinating. My mother always used to talk about swimming in the Blue Hole of Naked Creek in Page County, Virginia.

    1. I bet you do have some great blue holes in Virginia and West Virginia with the geology of the area.
I wrote the poem to a Trifecta challenge and I believe Alliteration was the goal. Thanks for the kind words.

    1. Thank you Yvonne. I want to do more canoeing before this old ride through life is over. There is nothing more beautiful than a float down a river.
