When I said see you in June, I thought I had plenty of time. I gots to get a handle on getting everything done.

When I was younger, I seemed to do more. I think a bigger part is I did not care what I did not do.

Anyway -

I think I made a mistake when I promised my family that I would not write about them. My life has been so involved with them that is where my thoughts are.

Which leads me to a truth about writers, we are writing about everybody all the time. Luckily I have an elephantine memory which helps I guess. I say I guess, it sure doesn't help me find my car keys.

I have a small place in the country. I basically grow what mother nature has scattered about. There is a gaggle of crows that have moved into the pine farm behind my house. The neighbor next door shot his pistol a lot and I guess it was time to relocate to a more hospitable home place.

The crows aren't that pleasant but they are welcome neighbors. I understand they keep hawks away. I would love to get some chickens. I just have not had a great deal of time. So it hasn't happened.

The crows walk about my back lawn and I suspect they are eating insects which is what I want my chickens to do. So, chickenguards that replace the chickens. I have quite a few lizards that frequent my side garden and garage. They are not that welcome but I guess there will be more soon. What I don't like about them is they attract snakes. Kingsnakes are welcome. Rattlesnakes aren't.

  1. I suppose if one is not trying to grow a garden, crows would do no actual harm. They can be awfully noisy. We always keep a few chickens out in the yard to eat up little pests. And a few cats out to keep rats and snakes at bay.

Funny how there never seems to be as much time as one thinks, whether it is for a project, for fun, for rest.
    Welcome back!

    1. One day, I might have a garden. Maybe I can plant enough for them and me. Crows are noisy. I had heard some strange animal noises several years ago and later saw it was a crow.

  2. Get a roadrunner or two; they will take care of the snakes :)

I try to be general when writing about my family and I don't use names and usually leave out half of the story. I also don't post pictures of them (well except for grandson, but that will stop now that he is starting to get more distinct looking).

    1. I saw a big rattlesnake slipping into the grass close to the road today. Roadrunners sound like a good thing.

Those are good guides to writing about family. With the internet being so open to everyone, you do need a filter.

    1. I had a large yellow female lab that weighed about 120 pounds. She was some kind of expensive dog that had been dumped. We theorized a breeder had dumped her after her baby making years were over. Long story short, she could flat handle a coyote. I don't think many pet dogs stand a chance with a coyote.

  4. You get rattlesnakes? Bummer. Then again, we get cottonmouths here.
    There is never enough time...

    1. I have lots of respect for any venomous snake. I even squeal for Kingsnakes. They all scare me. But they have a job to do. I'm mowing grass tonight out of respect. I don't want them close to my house. Oh my.

  5. Glad no poisonous snakes here. Hey, the crows help out and won't chicken out.

    1. Rattlesnakes are so dangerous. I had a dog bitten by one. I won't give details but it was awful.

  6. Hi Ann,

Yep, I finally strolled over to your blog. Thankfully, no rattle snakes where I live. About the most "frightening" critter I've seen in England is my local politician.

Your place almost sounds idyllic, minus the lizards and the rattlesnakes.

A peaceful rest of your weekend, Ann.

  7. It is fun to live in a country sort of environment where things are 'natural' One have to put up with the distractions inherent in such situations. Snakes of whatever kind are not to be messed around especially not knowing they are poisonous or not. A welcomed take, Ann, slightly different from others!

  8. I know what you mean when you say you remember important things but not where the car keys are!

  10. We've had so many crows around. I guess that's why I haven't seen our local hawk this year. I really don't like having them around. They seem so ... evil. LOL

  11. I was really happy to see you post. I understand time, how things happen, and people happen...do what you can, where you can...and share what you can. Hugs.
